Bamboo Mission in Tamil Nadu
Bamboo is a versatile group of plants which is capable of providing ecological, economic and livelihood security to the people. India has the highest areaĀ (13.96 million ha)under bamboo and is the second richest country, after China, in terms of bamboo diversity withĀ 136 species (125 indigenous and 11 exotic). India is a net importer of bamboo. It means that there are greater opportunities to harness the market potential by increasing its Production and ensuring establishment of a proper value chain ecosystem. In order to increase the area under Bamboo in non-forest areas such as Government lands, Public lands and Private lands, NationalĀ Bamboo Mission schemeĀ is being implemented.
This scheme also motivates on Post Harvest Management technologies skill development and awareness about bamboo cultivation. This scheme is centrally sponsored scheme with sharing pattern ofĀ 60:40. (Centre : State)
Government and Public landsĀ will be givenĀ 100% subsidy of Rs. 1 lakh/ HaĀ for an area expansion in three installments for 3 years
Private landsĀ will be givenĀ 50% subsidy of Rs. 50,000/Ha in 3 installments for 3 years.
